Namely Lucy

Lissa

My daughter was recently reading a book called Vampire Academy, by Richelle Mead. One of the main characters was Lissa Dragomir, a vampire. I’ve always known that nicknames like Lissa and Rissa were used, but this was the first time I’ve seen it in print. As soon as I saw this, I fell head over heals. Lissa is just one of those names that are so casual, yet so sophisticated at the same time. I can easily imagine a girl named Lissa wearing sweats and a ponytail, but I can just as easily imagine her as a classy socialite. Yes, I know Lissa is a nickname for Annalise, Rosalissa, and Melissa, but I think it deserves to stand alone just like its sister name Lisa. In case you were curious, Lissa is pronounced lih-suh, not lee-suh. It was (surprisingly) most popular in the sixties, although I think that may be incorrect as I found it as a alternative for Lisa. The definition is God is my oath, and the origin is American. It is also, like Lisa, a form of Elisabeth.

Lissa Michelle Arianne

Lissa Marie Claire

Lissa Naomi Nicole

Lissa Brianne Marie

Lissa Jade Alice

I’m actually liking Lissa Naomi Nicole a lot, the double “N” thing gives it an exotic edge and plus, the name Naomi just oozes exoticness. Nicknames for Lissa would be hard, because it IS a nickname, but I think if you really want to get creative with it, Lia, Sissy, Lissy, Liss, and Liz would work. As always, comments, questions, and suggestions are highly welcome!

Why did you just give me a thumbs down on yahoo answers for baby names? Are you retarded? Did you not think I would find out?

I wanted to delete this rude and off topic, not to mention spamming up my blog comment , but I thought I’d keep it for all to see. It cracked me up to see this. First of all, Yahoo Answers is just a game. Seriously. If I gave you a thumbs down, its because I didn’t like your answers. Simple as that. I don’t care if you do the same to me. It just means you didn’t like my answer. And no, I am not retarded, but I am very well questioning your mental stability. Jeez, calm down, and stop being so sensitive. Wow. Really. Sooooo….SORRY, if I really terribly horribly unacceptably offended you by clicking that tiny little thumbs down button on your Yahoo Answers answer, which doesn’t even affect your chances of getting best answer. I will now go cry and flog myself for being so terribly inconsiderate of your extremely sensitive Yahoo Answers feelings.

Lissa Naomi Nicole is pretty. I’m usually not one for alliteration, but I do like the flow and sound of this particular combination. You have a great blog, don’t let random spammers let you down :)

Awww thanks! And i thought it was quite funny to have a hater already on the first few days of blogging. It makes me feel famous. :D And I’m a huge fan of alliteration, there was a time when I wanted to name my girl Katharyn Kaprice but my hubby vetoed it.

Added to add, I accidentally put a thumbs down on your above comment, please disregard it as I was trying to do it to the Your Momma post but wasn’t paying close enough attention. I am so embarrassed. Sorry.

  5. I met a Lissa once. She hated her name. I’m partial to it.
